Room
of Poesy
I came across this one at my
school, Kuwait English School. I was assigned the task of typing up articles
for inclusion in the school magazine. Some of them had no names on them. This
one, in the hurry to release the mag, was published without a name. The writer
remains unknown to me to this day, but I loved it so much that I just had to
include it. So, whoever it is, if you are out there somewhere, please contact
me so I can put a name on it!
TWO PEOPLE
They both sat there, staring at... nothing. Both of them mesmerised by... nothing.
Not a word passed between them, not a breeze disturbed the heavy silence that
lay between them. Two people, sitting so close, yet neither of them could be
so far apart as they were now. Two people in the same place, yet different worlds.
Two people thinking of the same thing, but not aware of each other's thoughts.
Sunset darkened to night, yet neither one of them moved. Two people who desperately
wanted to be apart, but who remained together, as if held by a magnetic force.
"Why me?" she thought, "Why me?" he thought. Did either one have sense enough
to say, "Why us?"...
They were just two people, like many two people, caught in the same trap of
communication minus words. Two people who, like many two people, would never
change...
