Website Updates Log

On these pages I will try to maintain a list of all the updates to the site as they are made. It is a sort of documentation for the history and development of Power & Passion. It might be of interest to other web site authors who would like to know some more detail about how the site is built up and maintained. I have put the updates in reverse chronological order (most recent first) to make it easier to quickly read the new updates. There is also the original XenoWorld Updates Log if you are interested in knowing about the history of my older homepages (Dimension Vega, XenoWorld Classic and XenoWorld II). By the way, this website used to be called XenoXone, so you might find references to it with that name in older log entries.

1st June 2002 I have added 2 new sectors, Sector: life and Sector: club, bringing the website a little closer to being a complete profile about me. I did a little sector and page renaming, adjusting and swapping round colors, and other cleaning up bits and pieces, including scrapping "nerd" to become Sector: geek. I've added my brother Tarek's poem, Babies. All set for some new content now, especially stuff for the IEEE and Mensa groups in Egypt.

23rd May 2002 I have been doing a lot of improvements here and there and adding content for the last 4 months, but it's a long time since I last logged anything here. I am fixing up a few things here and there today, including the replacement of all references to XenoXone everywhere (except in the log) to the new name, Power & Passion. There is one place where the word XenoXone is written though, that I will not change, just to keep it as a souvenir. Can you spot it? :-)

11th February 2002 The website got the new name Power & Passion, which sounds a little less exotic and is more suited for me now that I'm (supposed to be) a bit more mature. I haven't been working on the website for a long time, but I intend to do a lot of work on it in the coming period. There are plenty of more serious things I want to put on the website now, so back to work!

26th January 2000 Improved the XenoXone icon at the right end of the header; much better. Added in the principles and objectives; basically borrowed from XenoWorld II with a few changes. A few spelling and wording corrections here and there.

25th January 2000 Finally moved in the Room of Poesy which was originally in XenoWorld and Dimension Vega. I also started writing in The Fern, which I've had on paper since last year when I did a talk on it at university.

24th January 2000 Fixed the Y2K problems in the guestbook and in the counter and banner logs (Perl's fault). Fixed a little problem in the guestbook; it used to display "0 years" if the age was not entered. Also made some minor changes to the guestbook. It now accepts two more options for the reference question (email signature and ICQ). With that done, I started to work on polishing off the main pages for each of the sectors and gave them a standard look which now makes it look a lot more professional. Also added the small link to the advertising information page next to the banner.

23rd January 2000 Finished the new standard backgrounds, now the site looks a lot cleaner. Fixed a minor glitch with IE in the main frameset JavaScript (IE is stupid).

21st January 2000 Decided finally to change the directory structure so that the sectors are directly in the root, instead of in a sector directory. A few other tweaks here and there an I uploaded all the new changes (since May 1999). Also, I found out that XenoXone had some Y2K problems where the year 2000 becomes 100 (not my fault though, I take it directly from Perl). Those will have to be fixed.

14th January 2000 Wow, it's been a long time! I finally got down to working again. Moved the banner again, this time to the very top of the page. Decided I should keep the backgrounds consistent, having lots of backgrounds looks messy.

21st May 1999 Some more changes to the look of the site. I finally decided to to remove the banner frame across the bottom of the screen completely and instead have the banner come up as part of the header in the content documents.

12th April 1999 First major revamp of the XenoXone frameset complete. I removed the horizontal frame with links to the sectors along the bottom and instead put a drop-down selection list in the side frame. Also did some rearranging of the directory structure of the site system.

23rd March 1999 Finished polishing up the guestbook and added it to the site. I also made some technical modifications to the entry page and the frameset document (they are now both the same file on the server!). Frames incapable browsers now directly refresh to the main page without having to click on a link in the intermediate page saying "What!? No frames?"

16th March 1999 Added the Dictionary in XenoXone Home. I also made a move to rebel against the PC convention of 3-letter filename extensions by changing all JPEG filenames to *.jpeg (rather than *.jpg) and all text files to *.text (originally *.txt)!

15th March 1999 I updated my résumé and polished it up, then added the Personal Profile page with links to the résumé in different formats. I also added the list of descriptions of the pages in XenoXone Home to the bottom of the sector's main page.

10th March 1999 We were asked at university to write a program to simulate process scheduling in operating systems. The result was Simyoolaeshun, which I have added to the web site and hope to expand to include simulations of other parts of a computer system.

3rd March 1999 I registered the site with RSAC, went through the rating process and added the RSACi button to the main page of the site.

28th February 1999 Put the log in and did a small modification to the frameset to allow me to have more control of the layout of the content frame.

26th February 1999 Now, everything which cannot be called content is finished (for now). I've also polished up the main XenoXone Home page and the sector icons.

15th February 1999 Most of the web site system is ready now, so I finally started uploading it to the web server at Addr. Parts completed at this stage include the front page, the full frame system and 'frame virus', the banner system, the counter and the page headers and footers. There is only one page of content till now, the main XenoXone Home page, and even that is not yet complete.

23rd January 1999 I applied at InterNIC for the domain name xenoxone.com and started immediately to work on the new web site. I'm leaving tomorrow with my parents to Hurghada, so I'm taking my PC with me! There I can sit in peace with nothing to do but work on the web site.

1st January 1999 It's the new year (1999, the end of life as we know it!), I'm having exams, GameAxis (where I hosted my last web site, XenoWorld II) have turned crap and I need some money! So on this calm evening, I'm sitting studying, and here it is, the perfect name for my ultimate, commercial, AnyBrowser compliant web site; XenoXone (I love the symmetry in it!). I've been considering getting myself a domain name and turning my web site commercial for a long time, but the decision did not come until today. Why do these ideas always have to come when I'm knee deep in exams?!
